NEW FOR THE NEW YEAR!!

So I am back, and contrary to plans the laptop has not yet been rebuilt – life just got in the way.  But it really has to be done – every time I use the laptop it gets slower and more error plagued.  Plus I have to install a new Norton AV as the current one will expire in 4 days.  So.  Looks like this weekend will be the time as I have to get out to the PO and do some food shopping tomorrow, and also make a trip to B&N to just sit and browse some jewelry mags and books over a very large cappuccino and maybe a piece of something sweet or savory.  This means I will be gallivanting most of the day, but I really do need to get out for a bit and get rid of the cabin fever that’s started creeping up on me!!

In the meantime, thank you’s are overdue my dear customers – I truly appreciate your support and purchases in this tough economy.  You know what I do when I feel down?  I go browsing through all the awesome feedback you guys leave me.  I get such a tremendous lift reading how happy you all are with your new bling and complimenting me for the fast shipping and great service.  Thank you.  I am sending big cyber hugs to you all because you touch my heart with your kindnesses!

And thank you, too, my fellow Etsian’s who keep honoring me by including my items in your treasuries.  I can’t tell you how nice it is to see all the new treasuries listed in My Treasuries on Etsy.  Thank you for the time you take to do that!  I appreciate your efforts so very much!  So thank you SarahT, grahtoestudio, Denise DeKemper, Linda Hawkins and Linda Hope.

And now, here are some new items for 2012 – new, higher grade pandora style murano lampwork beads, new charms ( including authentic Pugster’s!) and new types of bracelets.  There’s more to come, too.  I’ve been at it purchasing and restocking my supply of handmade artisan lampwork beads to make new Viking Knit and hand strung lampwork jewelry.  It’s been far too long since I sat and created anything – so that will stop very, very soon.  I will be spending less time online and more time creating this year.  I have to make some new and beautiful things for Spring before I burst!

Here’s a look at some of the new beads, charms and that toggle bracelet – and just a reminder that everything in the shop is still on sale with free shipping!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

…a little late.  My apologies!  I do hope you all had an awesome New Year’s though!  Been having some problems with my laptop, which is why I wasn’t able to write this sooner, and it looks likes the damn malware has done me in again.

My laptop is working, but barely.  I am going to have to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows, all my programs and all my files and photos and music.  *sigh*  Not how I wanted to start the new year!  But before my system dies completely, I have to back up my extensive files and then it’ll take a day or two to rebuild it.

So, before I disappear again for a few days, I just wanted to let you know the shop will remain open but I won’t be able to respond to emails for a few days.  And I am still having a sale and free shipping, so if you have a coupon now’s the time to use it to get the bling Santa didn’t bring you :-))

Here’s a treasury of some of the new items I just added recently, plus some items that would make wonderful Valentine’s Day gifts!  February 14th is right around the corner, as is St Patrick’s Day (March 17th) and Easter (April 8th).  I’ll be making new items with those holiday themes, plus new items in spring colors.  *sigh* so much to do, so little time….

OF BAGPIPES, PARADES AND GREEN BEER…

Today, I will be sharing some memories of  St Patrick’s Day and the wearing of the green.  This comes a day early, as I will not be making an entry tomorrow.  Even though I am not of Irish heritage, on March 17th each year I morph into a wee Irish Lassie and rummage through my closet for something green to wear before I head out for the festivities.   But first, a short history.

The Chicago River is dyed green each year for the St Patrick's Day celebration, shown here in 2005.

St. Patrick’s Day is observed by people of Irish ancestry as well as non-Irish.  It is a Catholic religious observance that is held each year on March 17th.  Activities include attending mass or service and watching parades, attending céilithe, wearing shamrocks, wearing green, drinking Irish beer and Irish whiskey, eating traditional foods and generally having an all around good time.

The Irish Society of Boston organized what was not only the first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in the colonies but the first recorded Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in the world in 1737. (The first parade in Ireland did not occur until 1931 in Dublin.) The parade in Boston involved Irish immigrant workers marching to make a political statement about how they were not happy with their low social status and their inability to obtain jobs in America.

New York’s first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade was held in 1762 by Irish soldiers in the British Army. The first celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day in New York City was held at the Crown and Thistle Tavern in 1766.  The parades were held as political and social statements because the Irish immigrants were being treated unfairly.  Irish patriotism in New York City continued to soar and the parade in New York City continued to grow. Irish aid societies like Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Hibernian Society were created and they marched in the parades too. Finally when many of these aid societies joined forces in 1848 the parade became not only the largest parade in the United States but one of the largest in the world.

Bead Set available in my shop

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the United States.  Seattle and other cities paint the traffic stripe of their parade routes green. Chicago dyes its river green. Indianapolis dyes its main canal green. Savannah, Georgia dyes its downtown city fountains green. Missouri University of Science and Technology – St Pat’s Board Alumni –  paint 12 city blocks kelly green with mops before the annual parade. In Jamestown, New York the Chadakoin River (a small tributary that connects Conewango Creek with its source at Chautauqua Lake) is dyed green each year.  Columbia, SC dyes its fountain green in the area known as Five Points (a popular collegiate location near the University of South Carolina). In the Northeastern United States, peas are traditionally planted on Saint Patrick’s Day.

Well, enough official history.  Now for a little unofficial history.  *wink*  I remember one particular St Paddy’s Day quite clearly, or at least I remember parts of it.  I was fifteen years old and my best friend Carol (who is nothing but Irish) took me along with her family up to Huntington, which is a very Irish town, to see the parade.

After we attended mass at St. Patrick’s Church we found a good vantage spot, along with scores of other people, on Main Street, enjoying the early March sun and waiting for the parade, growing more excited by the minute.

Everyone was in high spirits, and there were plenty of cute boys hanging around for Carol and I to flirt with since we’d met up with her Aunt Peg and Uncle Sean, and they had three sons – Adam, Sean Jr, and John.  We were all close in age and they had their friends with them, and Carol and I were the only girls, so we were getting lots of nice attention.

We were just hanging around, and then suddenly we could hear the wail of the bagpipes and the boom-boom-boom of the bass drums getting louder and closer.  Before long, the parade was passing by and here came the Huntington Hibernians,  who have parading in Huntington for 77 years now, marching down the road in all their pride and glory. Their bagpipes were awesome, and very L-O-U-D, and quite THE spectacle!!

After the parade, everyone headed over to Finnegan’s for a traditional meal of  corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and green beer. I remember that there was loud Irish music playing, and people were dancing jigs and drinking green beer and Irish whiskey and having a generally uninhibited, loud and good time.   Unfortunately, I don’t remember much more than that, except that when the memory comes to me it’s an exceptionally good one.

This year, the parade up in Huntington will kick off just north of the Huntington Train Station along New York Avenue before turning west onto Main Street ending at Saint Patrick’s Church.  Gosh, it’s been many moons since I went to that parade.  You get busy with life, you know?  And you forget about things that once meant something to you.  Well, this year for some reason the bagpipes are calling me. Perhaps it’s time for a trip back into yesterday. Who says you can’t go home again?

JUST ANOTHER MONDAY

Well, the weekend’s over and we’re back to blah Monday.   Today I will be taking lots and lots and lots of pictures and then making lots and lots and lots of shop listings.  I’m already exhausted just thinking about it.  *sigh*  I hate Mondays.

I’ve been included in a new treasury here  – thank you ambersaromas4u!! Thanks also to Rebecca H for your lovely order! I have a new BEST feature to write today also – which I will post tomorrow.  And I have to do something for EtsyBloggers as far as blogging for the Blog Carnival and Featured Member.  You will see those soon, also.  I also want to blog about my new Jewelry series this week also.  I also need to catch up with Face Book because I’ve been MIA for about 2 weeks now because I’ve been so busy.  And that’s about all I’m going to write today because I do have tons of work to get done.

Just another reminder that if you’re planning to buy something new and something green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day that you should get your orders in now as it’s less than 2 weeks away.  I’ve added a treasury of some of my green bling – enjoy!  and happy shopping!

I’VE BEEN INTERVIEWED!!! AND FEATURED!!!!!

I’ve had the great pleasure of being interviewed by Chrissy Moss and she’s posted the interview in her blog, The Daily Etsy. You can read the interview here.  It’s a mix of things to see oneself written about – of course, it really boosts the ego but it also makes me blush just a bit, due to my sense of shyness.  Now, if you know me well you’d laugh at that – “What!” you’d say, “You? Shy?”  hahahahahah “No way!”   And I have to agree in part that yes I do lose that shyness after I get to know and feel comfortable with you – then, watch out!! Well, it really is a wonderful interview, and thank you so much Chrissy for the interview!!! So, please, if you have a moment, leave a comment so I know you read it. I would appreciate it muchly!

Next, I’ve also been featured here on Alexander’s Designs blog by Jenn (thank you Jenn for a nice BEST team feature article!).  If you have a moment, please click on the link and maybe leave a comment – Jenn and I would greatly appreciate it!  And I’ve been included in another treasury here and here and here.  I have listed some of the new items I blogged about yesterday – there’s a preview below.  I am still getting deliveries each day – I find it so much fun to open each package and inspect the items I’ve purchased.  I get really excited all over again about the item’s I’ve purchased – especially the new line of sterling silver Pandora style charms and dangles.  I so cannot wait to get those items delivered and photographed and listed in my shop for you!

TGIF!!!!!!!!!

YAY!  Friday is finally here for all you work slaves!  I had a busy week, too, even though I’m retired.  I never did get to making those Pandora style earrings I wrote about in yesterday’s post.  Instead, I spent most of the day making graphics for the shop for BEST – they need them in order to promote my shop.  Oh!  And I’m now officially a member of BEST.  This is so exciting, and it’s a big step for growing my shop.  I made (from scratch, btw) a new shop banner, a shop ad, 1/2 of a blog button(not done yet, will finish tomorrow)  and an avatar using Photoshop CS3.   I had to take a few quick on-line tutorials before I got started, and it wasn’t that hard considering it was my first attempt at that sort of thing ever.  (Though I suppose my IT background gave me a nose up on most people, 😉 ) Here they are – avatar, shop ad and banner – tell me what you think .

I got several wonderful orders yesterday! 🙂  Much thanks and appreciation to Ann W, Jennifer R, Lindsey D, Carrie P, and Hannah S who purchased Pandora style jewelry and charms and holiday themed earrings.  What a delight to work with you all!!  Also, I have a request for slmv1187 (Matt V) – please contact me about your order asap!!

Today I will be out – post office, food shopping, and !!!!  a visit to Barnes & Noble for that cappucino and biscotti I’ve been wanting, and also to browse through the art and jewelry magazines.  I need to breathe a little after this whirlwind of shop activity.  It will be a nice break to get out.  However, I will be online again this evening as the shop never closes!  If you need to contact me, email me via Etsy mail.

*****REMEMBER – ALL PANDORA STYLE JEWELRY SALES END JAN 15TH AT MIDNIGHT*****

Everyone have a wonderful day – it’s Friday!!!

Happy Shopping!

SPEAKING OF STORMS….

I’ve been having my own personal storm of making new jewelry!! I’ve created 75 new pieces in the last 2 days, and man am I wiped!  42 yesterday, 33 the day before.  I think I deserve a few days off after this before I burn out!!!  Honestly, I need to do the wash and the dishes and food shopping and lots of other stuff which I’ve been neglecting for the last 2 weeks!!  So you may not see me make a post here if I take myself up on my offer to tidy up and goof off just a bit.  I’ve been yearning to get myself up to Barnes & Noble to have a mocha cappuccino and a chocolate-chocolate chip biscotti and leaf through all the latest jewelry and Somerset mags.   I’m overdue.

But speaking of 42 more new items (which I’ve also listed in the shop) – there are new heart themed earrings and Pandora style charm dangles for St V Day (some in non-traditional colors), new Pandora style beads (enamels, gemstones and metals), Pandora style earrings and dangle charms, and more, plus I replenished some of my existing stock of dangle charms.

***SALE ENDING SOON**  ALL  Pandora Style jewelry and charms will go back to regular prices on January 15th at 12AM!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday was Pandora style charm day – had 2 nice orders (thank you!!!! Jane and Chan!!)  come in and got those packaged up last night for today’s mail.  I didn’t have a lot of time to do the promotion thing in Etsy’s Forum, but I did make a few listings.  Oh, and I’ve been featured in several BNRs and treasuries on Etsy!!  My thanks to YarningAbout, BridgeandBuckle, Crandalian, OfftheWallExpression and my fellow BEST team member MysticWynd for including me in the treasuries and BNRs below

Treasuries are a great place to shop – they’re a collection of themed items.  Themes can be anything – I’ve created quite a few treasuries recently with themes of Christmas, St V Day, St P Day, Easter, Spring, Alice in Wonderland, faeries, Grays & Blues, and many more.  So if you were to look at my Grays & Blues Treasury, you’d see a dozen or so shops selling gray-blue items listed.  The treasures are like a small snapshot of what’s available on Etsy.  Next time you need to get someone a gift and you’re stumped, browse through some of the treasuries for ideas.

Today’s activities will find me making more new Pandora style earrings and Pandora style dangle charms, taking photos, getting them listed, taking care of any in-coming orders (fingers crossed!  :-)) and doing some promoting.  I also need to finish reading the BEST Team’s Newbie Information Packet (no small thing, it’s 33 pages!) – I’m about halfway through and I want to get it finished so I can move forward and start getting busy with the team, and that should do it.

So, until tomorrow have a great day, and maybe some Happy Shopping!!
